Description
The Leidos Research Support Team supporting the National Energy
Technology Laboratory (NETL) is seeking a Geographer or Data
Scientist with experience in environmental justice/social justice
domain to join our Team in Morgantown, WV, or Albany, OR. In this
role you will facilitate information sharing, analysis, and
decision making through a geospatial information system (GIS). An
emphasis will be placed on environmental justice and social justice
experience. You will also collaborate with a multidisciplinary team
to develop advanced custom mapping interfaces, transform data
to/from GIS formats, integrate GIS with varied data domains to
provide holistic information, and communicate science to a variety
of audiences (i.e., conferences, internal meetings).
Location: Candidate must be local to the Morgantown, WV or Albany,
OR area as this is a hybrid role. Approximately 50% will be worked
onsite at the NETL campus and 50% will be worked remotely from
home.
Primary Responsibilities:
Identify credible data sources through extensive literature reviews
and online research, then acquire and process data for further
analytics.
Utilize social, energy, and environmental justice domain knowledge
to understand and evaluate data collection and analytical needs for
ongoing projects.
Identify geospatial data sources, efficiently acquire, explore, and
transform data using authoritative GIS techniques, and produce
scientific and statistical results.
Demonstrated experience using GIS to process geospatial data, run
spatial analytics, and develop derivative spatial layers.
Demonstrated experience in cartography to develop readable and
insightful maps.
Create data-driven products for stakeholders, including but not
limited to maps, web map applications, dashboards, story maps, and
data.
Support quality assurance and control of geospatial data products
and associated metadata prior to public release.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary team, including geologists,
geographers, chemists, computer scientists, environmental
scientists, and other researchers to assist each other in
accomplishing project related tasks.
Build and maintain relationships with internal and external
clients.
Generate data analysis reports that are publication worthy.
Assist in writing methods, results, and data interpretations for
publications in high quality, scientific peer-reviewed journals,
and technical reports.
Develop and present results for oral or poster presentation at
staff meetings and professional conferences.
Provide weekly and monthly technical updates to research team
members and project management.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with 3+ years experience or Master's degree in
Geography, Environmental Sciences, Data Sciences, Social Sciences,
or related field with 1+ years experience.
Experience with the environmental and social justice domain.
Experience collaborating on a dynamic team of interdisciplinary
researchers including geographers, geologists, data scientists, web
developers, engineers, and more.
Competent using ESRI products (ArcGIS, ArcPro).
Working knowledge of Python or R programming languages.
Comprehensive knowledge of basic principles of cartography and
graphic design, with demonstrated skills in digital cartography and
geographic visualization.
Experience identifying, acquiring, and processing credible data
(including tabular and spatial data) from online sources.
Experience developing metadata for geospatial and tabular
datasets.
Must be able to meet the requirements for gaining access to work on
the NETL campus.
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Preferred Qualifications:
Expert in ESRI products (ArcPro, and ArcEnterprise)
Experience developing Web Applications and Dashboards.
Experience programming in Python or R for data sciences.
Experience in data analysis, report development, scientific
writing, and presentation of results.
Experience in communicating results to a range of audiences.
Experience working with and producing results from demographic,
environmental, infrastructure data.
Salary Range for this position: $75K to $90K
Pay Range:
Pay Range $63,050.00 - $97,000.00 - $130,950.00
The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only
and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors
considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to)
responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge,
skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with
market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other
law.
