Job Summary
This position is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects
of the Moreau Center for Service & Justice (MCSJ) as an integral
part of the Division of Student Affairs. Guided by Catholic Social
Teaching, the MCSJ partners with local and global communities to
engage in critical human and environmental concerns to support
active learning and mutually beneficial service opportunities.
The Director oversees the fulfillment of the University's core
themes related to formation, service, and justice, ensuring
University students are provided opportunities to connect
meaningfully through community engagement that fosters a deepened
understanding of the needs of the world and its human family. This
position reports directly to the Vice President for Student
Affairs.
Core Duties
- Advance the mission and vision of the University through
service, leadership, and a variety of programs while collaborating
with the Office of Campus Ministry and other campus
leaders.
- Provide vision and leadership to the development and
implementation of MSCJ programs, informed by Catholic social
teaching.
- Develop community partnerships and seek opportunities for
academic collaboration to meet community-driven needs.
- Analyze program effectiveness and assess outcomes, making
strategic recommendations as needed.
- Lead the MSJC annual assessment process in alignment with the
Division of Student Affairs.
- Oversee and implement policies and procedures that support
equitable practices and ensure risk management.
- Supervise and support the MSJC Program Managers and other
staff, overseeing volunteer and student leader positions.
- Manage the budget process, tracking, and reporting of MCSJ
expenditures.
- Direct and oversee all promotional and communications materials
for the Center.
- Support and collaborate with University partners to plan and
promote projects and events.
- Participate as a lead accompanier for at least one immersion
trip per academic year.
- Provide advisory support to student clubs.
- Represent the department in various University programs and
external events.
- Serve on University Committees for strategic initiatives.

Education & Experience
- Required: Bachelor's degree in relevant field of
study.
- Required: Five or more years' experience in higher education
administration and/or non-profit management.
- Preferred: Masters, PhD or EdD.
- Or a combination of equivalent education and/or experience.

- None
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of successful academic and administrative program
development and management.
- Knowledge and understanding of community service organizations
and government agencies.
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and fiscal
responsibilities.
- Ability to create new and ongoing partnerships with external
entities.
- Knowledge of trends and resources pertaining to community-based
learning.
- Alignment with the Catholic mission of the University of
Portland.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct workshops and programming
presentations.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and judgment
skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Competence with and commitment to diversity and

- Ability to establish effective working relationships within a
University setting.
- Effective ability to use and learn required technologies and
software.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently: sit, perform desk-based computer tasks; use fine
manipulation and grasp.
- Occasionally: stand and walk; lift, carry, push, and pull
objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
- As needed: ability to travel by car and airplane.
- As needed: ability to work irregular hours.

vary.
- Travel by car and air may be required.
