All materials need to be included in your TalentEd/Applicant Tracking application Job Purpose Statement: The job of SLC Paraprofessional is done for the purpose of facilitating student success in academic and interpersonal skills through independently implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of students; providing a safe and optimal learning environment, and providing direct feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, representing the district as needed in special education meetings, and other duties as assigned. In addition to these tasks, the SLC paraprofessional works with complex curriculum that requires substantial training to ensure fidelity in its implementation and employs an advanced understanding of the legal and pedagogical requirements of a self-contained classroom. The SLC paraprofessional also assists in training and supporting instructional assistants, guiding them in effective strategies for student engagement and instructional support and assumes greater responsibility, compared to other support staff, when responding to unexpected situations. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Participate in specialized training to ensure the accurate delivery of complex curricula that require a high level of fidelity, including methodologies such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and other evidence-based practices. Serve as a resource for instructional assistants supporting students who require these specialized instructional approaches. Implement instructional strategies under the direction of the Structured Learning Center (SLC) teacher, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of the curriculum objectives and alignment with district special education policies. Assist in training and supporting instructional assistants in the SLC program, providing guidance on the use of specific instructional strategies and techniques. As directed by the SLC teacher, model effective instructional practices and offer informal feedback to staff to enhance instructional delivery. Coordinate instructional support staff in managing emergent situations, ensuring appropriate actions are taken until the SLC teacher assumes responsibility. Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of supporting teacher’s expectations, developing methods for improvements and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment. Assesses and records student achievement for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding students’ progress, expectations, and goals. Assists other teachers for the purpose of implementing curriculum. Collaborates with school personnel, parents and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions and planning curriculum. Instructs students for the purpose of improving their success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through a defined course of study. Maintains regular and appropriate attendance and is on time for assignment(s) for the purpose of meeting the needs of the students and the district. Directs instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student aides for the purpose of providing an effective school program and addressing the needs of individual students. Monitors student activities (e.g. classroom, lunch, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment. Prepares teaching materials and reports (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and providing documentation of teacher and student progress. Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code, district and/or school policies. GENERAL PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS Work effectively with and respond to people from diverse cultures or backgrounds. Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, and dress in a neat, clean and appropriate manner for the assignment and work setting. Confer regularly with immediate supervisor. Follow all district policies, work procedures and reasonable requests by proper authority. Maintain the integrity of confidential information relating to a student, family, colleague or district patron. Develop job skills necessary to meet changes in the position. Meet applicable district physical ability/health and safety guidelines for the position. Experience Required : Prior job related experience - working with students, school staff and families. Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required : Skills to motivate students, communicate with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds, direct support personnel, evaluate performance. Knowledge of age appropriate teaching methods and state curriculum framework. Perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks. Ability to use computer technology - especially Google Suite and gmail. Ability to maintain records. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and other school personnel. Meet schedules and deadlines. Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred. Education Required: High School diploma or equivalent. Possess the equivalent of 72 quarter credits of college coursework or have a passing score on the CBEST or Paraprofessional Assessment, in lieu of college coursework. Required testing: Any offer of employment made by Hood River County School District to an external candidate is contingent upon satisfactory results of: Drug screening tests for any illegal drug or substance classified in Schedules I through V under the Federal Controlled Substances Act, 21 U.S.C. 811 to 812.
